This used to be a favorite place but there was a change of owners and things have gone down hill. Service is slow. Our table and floor around it was sticky. They served chips and salsa. First let me say that I eat a lot of Mexican food. I just moved to the area from the city and felt like Pepe's was going to be too tex max so I never went. I have to say when I finally got over myself the food was actually really good. All of their salsa taste like it's house made they have very good cheese inside their own enchilada very flavorful. Say I was quite impressed so much so that I had their beans rice and salsa catered for my next party.

Okay, they won me back -- at least for now. We visited again on May 28, which was a Thursday evening around 6:30 PM and was one of only about five or six tables. Was greeted by the manager, who was very professional and friendly and had a server that we had in the past who was VERY good and attentive. I ordered the exact same dinner as last time and it came out perfectly, hot and quick. The chips and salsa had improved as had the margarita. My husband's dinner was much better too. All in all very pleased with this visit. Side note -- the "new" young waiter who served us last time was there serving the table behind us. The woman ended up getting her own drink refills and more chips for the table. So that definitely still needs to be improved. Happy that my neighborhood place is showing signs of improvement, but if they don't get more business they may not make it in the long run.

Service was slow and lacking! Food was okay. The salsa tasted like it was out of a can though. Luckily they took my coupon, so it wasn't real expensive or I would have been upset. They have a lunch buffet on Sunday from 11 until 3, which looked good. I think I'll try that if I go again.

Not my first choice in Mexican food (Burrito Jalisco forever) but, it's still very good. The tacos are good, burritos are huge, good rice and beans. I love their chips and salsa. As for the cons, their pork doesn't have a nice marinade like most places, it's pretty dry. I don't like when I ask for hot sauce and they bring little packets of "Pepes" sauce. It is not hot and not good. The flautas are also too thin and get overcooked. Service is great everytime.

Even though I like Pepe's, this Pepe's is a disaster. I've dined in here twice. The first time shortly after they opened. Tiny glasses of wine for big bucks and cold food. About a year later we gave them another try, heck, it could have been start up problems. 2nd time, not much better. Fast forward a few years and we get a coupon in a local booklet delivered to our home (we live less than a mile from this restaurant) for a number of Pepe's Restaurants. So we order the tacos for carryout at 10 for $12. "Ready in 20 minutes". When I went to pick up the tacos...Ooops, "We FORGOT to put your order in the system...it'll be 25 to 40 mins." When I attempt to pay..."Oh we don't honor those offers, 10 tacos, $25.00". Like I said this place is a DISASTER.

Pepe's in Homer Glen received one star because giving no stars was not an option. First time there, honestly expected average food. Asked server "Is the chicken filling in the enchiladas white meat?" She replied she didn't know. I asked her to check. She returns saying it's white meat. So I order the Enchilada Suizas with Chicken......YES it was dark meat with a bit of white meat. Return it and ask for a Chile Relleno dinner. Pepper was so obviously microwaved, soggy and disgusting! Hellooooo, prestuff your peppers, dip in batter and fry before serving, takes 5 minutes!!!! Manager never came over to apologize. Should have credited our two drinks and we pay for my husbands dinner. Problem solved. As it stands, will never return again. Go to El Famous, much better, fresh food and much cheaper.

This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant, and trust me I love Mexican food. I highly recommend the chili con queso, my personal favorite thing on the menu. They also have excellent carne a la mexicana. And I love the chicken quesadillas. I have been coming here for at least 10 years and have never had a bad meal! They have excellent chips and salsa, killer margaritas, and it's decently priced. I absolutely love this place.

I highly doubt this is "authentic" Mexican food, but what would I know? It tasted pretty good and was served VERY quickly, like McDonald's quick which kinda weirded me out a little bit. But Gregula and I did enjoy our "Biondi" burrito platters, even though I'm SURE they were like 6,000 calories each. The free t-shirt we got with the meal was a nice bonus too (there was a special WLS-FM event with oldies DJ Dick Biondi last night) too bad it was a one-night only special! It does seem to be one of the go-to places on a Friday night for the SW suburban crowd and if Pepe's can make them happy, well they deserve a four-star rating.

This pepe's food isn't that great. We went there once and waited about 45 minutes to even get a waiter! No waiter was even assigned to our table! We only got waited on when we actually informed someone! Chips and salsa isn't that great. One time when I went to pick up food I waited about 15 minutes when they told us on the phone it would be done in a certain amount of time but when I got there it wasn't done. Slow service. I make the trip to the one in Tinley Park instead even though this one is closer to my house.

I've been to many Pepe's before, being a chain but this one was different. Yes it is home town for me, but the atomosphere was up-beat and just fast paced - I really enjoyed it. I like the fact that you have a wide variety and can customize to your taste. Decently priced, another location that I will be back to!
(4)

Every so often I get such a craving for this crap that I can't stand it. I have to admit that I worked at the Pepe's in Tinley Park for 7 years as a hostess, then server and then manager. All of the food is purchased pre-made in bags from the corporation and is then placed in a steam table. So, unless one of the chain locations really Fs this up, you basically get the same food at whatever location you visit. The one difference are the chips and salsa, and this location's are pretty decent. Don't forget to order the peppers and carrots. They also have a nice bar with good drink specials and a small outdoor patio.

Pepe's is an awesome place. At least this location. The food is the same as at any other Pepe's you go too. It's not bad, you don't get a craving for Pepe's tacos when you're drunk, but you'll definitely enjoy them while you are getting drunk. The best part of this Pepe's is the atmosphere. It is very inviting and friendly. Ihave never had a bad bartender/sever. I also always sit in the bar area. There are tables, booths and bar to sit at. In fact for the longest time I didn't realize that there was a whole other seating restaurant area on the other side. In case you couldn't tell Pepe's is as good a place to grab a beer or margarita if not better than some of the other bars around here. They have a nice patio in the summer and it's a blast here on most bar holidays. The free chips and salsa really seal the deal though.

Went here on a Friday evening. Stuffed tacos were great. Other diner's tostadas were good. The rice was rather tasteless and quite dry, and it could have used more of something - probably tomatoe sauce - on it. The service was terrific at first with offers for more chips and salsa as well as beverages. However, after a half-an-hour of eating, we decided to stay longer to talk over beverages. Service completely stopped! It would be understandable if the restaurant was busy - but even for a Friday evening, there were lots of empty tables around. The waitress wasn't busy - but apparently she figures she's "done with you" after a half-an-hour. After a short time, a guy from in back came over and cleared our table in front of us - beverage glasses and all - which was taken as a "time to go" message. Defiante of their incomprehensible rudeness - since they weren't busy and it was still early in the evening - we sat a bit longer to talk. Good food, great atmosphere, but service minimal-at-best. If you want to sit and chat for a while after you've eaten - this is not the place to go. Apparently, the staff wants you to eat and get the heck outta there!

Honestly my girlfriend and I have no complaints about Pepe's. The service is spectacular and attentive to our little quarks. We've been to a few of the other locations, but this is hands down the best place to go! The drink specials are actually a great deal and have a variety throughout the week. Will be coming here for a very long time! :)

You remember that restroom situation I encountered a while back. I am pleased to announce that this was a one time incident thank goodness. It really makes you feel welcome. The food has not changed a bit

We love Pepe's in Homer Glen. If you are looking for a low key fun night out with family or friends Pepe's is great. I mean this is not rocket science Mexican its just good simple mexican food. The chips and salsa are my boyfriends favorite of all. He likes thin small chucks salsa I agree with him it is good though I don't mind big or small chuncks in mine. Taco meat is good, quesodilla's are good, fajittas are good. No complaints on food whatever you get will be a good cheap meal. The staff is YOUNG so cut them some slack as they are teenagers but make them understand your needs if they aren't being met. I'm going tonight and can't wait for a margarita frozen!

Not completely authentic but there are things you can order which can be fully authentic. Steak taco dinner on corn tortillas with only cilantro and onion is great. Salsa is fantastic as usual. Margaritas are nice and strong. Deals on various days with coupons always in circulation.

Summary: overcoming low expectations to provide consistently good Mexican food on an approachable menu. With so many good Mexican options around the city of Chicago and suburbs, it surprises me that Pepe's has survived so long. It is a local Chicago chain with locations scattered around town. If it were me choosing, I would want to explore one of the ~infinite number of mom-and-pop Mexican places in the southwest suburbs before choosing Pepe's. But it was not me choosing - we went there for a family celebration and it was the choice of the guest of honor. I have come to realize Pepe's has a place in the restaurant scene here: it has really tasty food. Yeah, so, perhaps the menu has pretty standard options on there, and one is hard-pressed to find "exotic" Mexican ingredients like chihuahua cheese, lengua or even fresh cilantro/coriander. But the simple things they have are really good. I had a steak burrito suiza with black beans. It was a dinner plate which means it includes rice and beans. Chips and salsa and some Dos Equis beers. Others had tacos and fajita burrito and enchiladas. It was by all accounts all very good. Would I recommend it? Not sure, depends on the person. Not to a gourmand or someone seeking authentic top-rate Mexican food, nor to someone with experience eating Mexican cuisine regularly. Such people might be disappointed in the options available. But I would recommend Pepe's to a newcomer to Mexican food - it's a good place to try Mexican for the first time. I'd also recommend it to families. Maybe you'll fall in love with it and this will become your favorite Mexican place - and if so that's great! It's just not my favorite despite being fairly delicious.

Well, they have unlimited chips and salsa. And that's about the only positive I found here. Our waitress was a big bummer. Our food was mediocre (but fast, probably adding to the mediocre factor). The drinks took FOREVER! If you tried to go to the bar to get a drink, they just redirected you to your table to be served by your SLOW WAITRESS...hello- that's why I came over to the bar!

We used to love this place until we had two horrible experiences. The first was when we tried to use a groupon. We asked the waitress if we could use two groupons. We knew that you can only use one per table but we were with friends and she told us no problem, she would just ring us up separate. She could not ring it up that way and the manager came over and explained how groupon works. We understood how groupons work but the server told us we could use two and the manager told us "too bad". What a joke, the manager clearly should not be in that position.

The best Pepes in the area, clean nicely decorated. For Pepes the food is very good and the portions are generous. The wait staff is very attentive and the drinks are very good. Be sure to try the salsa prepared once a week by the owner it is excellent. They only place I have found where you can get Dos Equis amber on tap and it is very very good.

When I tried to use a groupon they told me I could not order from the lunch menu. Next, they said my groupon was not valid at the Homer Glen Location. I was extremely disappointed. So when I called a the Hickory Hills location that did accept the groupon, they hung up on me. All I wanted to do was get a refund or transfer the groupon to the Homer Glen location. I WILL NEVER EAT AT PEPE's AGAIN. I can't believe the lack customer service I received.

Been eating at Pepe's since the 1970's on Western Ave./southside Chicago. Have always loved it. Was never disappointed in the Homer Glen location until this past winter and I haven't been back there. Basically: Had a 2 for 1 coupon and came in on a Sunday early afternoon. Their buffet was still going. My husband wanted the buffet, I wanted a dinner. Server said we could use the coupon even though it was for a different Pepe's...they've done this before....but will only give you $7 off instead of $9...fine. He brings me my dinner plate and my husband was starting seconds on the buffet and then in mid-bite he comes to the table and says, "My bad, management won't honor the coupon ($7 off) because of the buffet purchase." I said, "but you already ok'd it." He shrugs his shoulders and that's that. We would have ordered 2 dinners to get the $7 off had he said the buffet was not possible. So we paid full price and never went back...it's been about 7-8 months now. I wrote and mailed the manager/owner a letter back then about the "switcheRoo" and said we wouldn't be back unless he addressed it. He didn't...we haven't...and end of story.

Food at this Pepes location seems better than any other I have been. Had enchiladas with mole sauce and the sauce was great. Service was great, clean good atmosphere. Value was very good as were the free chips and salsa

Don't expect anything homemade here. Dry out of a can retried beans, bland dry rice, and food smothered in rubbery cheese to hide it. We did hav a very friendly server, and there seemed to be good drink specials. Pop served is rc/diet rite, which I refuse to drink. Won't be back!

Stopped in for lunch the other and was happy I grabbed the Groupon for this location. Hostesses and waitresses/waiters were all friendly and attentive. Restaurant decor, while franchised, fit fairly well. Fairly large menu and plenty of food and drink specials. Plenty of room to sit and a big bar area, outfitted with plenty of TV's for you sports viewing pleasure. Started with the Queso Fundido app (with tortillas). Freaking delicious, huge, and a great starter for a group of four or so (the TWO of us were stuffed). Two orders of Carne Asada a la Tampiquena (one with cheese) satisfied our entree appetite. Steak was cooked exactly as we ordered, the beans were perfect, not a big fan of the microwaved rice, but the accompanying enchiladas, guacamole, and salad fit just right. Bill was a little higher than some, but overall a fair price to pay when you consider the friendly efficient service and generally upbeat atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to stop back in the future, had a good time.

Hmm... I love mexican food, I do. I was excited about the proximity of this place to my boyfriend's house, and I was excited about the weekly drink specials. We walked in and $3 long islands? Sold. 1/2 price margaritas on Tuesday? Coming back. Well, maybe. Okay.. first of all, I will say the chips and salsa are some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly crispy chips and perfectly spiced salsa. Excellent. We ordered 2 long islands (of course! They were on special). They come out, and they're the color of coca cola. Okay, we're not judging the color. Let's try them. Well, it tasted like coca cola. Now, believe me, I get it. There's a splash of coke in long islands. I know that... But this was no splash. In fact, I don't even know that there was anything else in it? I seriously could only taste coke. I couldn't even drink it, I gave it to my boyfriend and ordered a margarita... which by the way, was awesome. Definitely coming back on Tuesday just for drinks. Okay next, the food. BF ordered crab meat enchiladas. They came out in flour tortillas, which he can't eat (gluten intolerance). But seriously, the menu didn't mention this and where in the world do enchiladas come out in flour tortillas? Maybe we should have asked, but still... we had to send it back. I wanted one of the combos that was a taco, and an enchilada. I asked if it was possible to have white meat chicken instead of whatever mixture some of these places use :) The waitress informed me taht it would be $1.00 per item for white meat chicken? Which actually brought my meal up to the same price as fajitas (Something I'd prefer anyway), so I went with those. When I asked for some sides with the fajitas, (what fajitas don't come with cheese, sour cream, etc) I was told they would be $1.00 each. Seriously, I was like, everything in this restaurant (that is standard) costs a dollar. It is the WEIRDEST rule ever. Anyway, food was okay. Overpriced, in my opinion, and annoying to order because of the $1 add ons to everything. The long islands were very weird, and I almost expected our bill to say "2 cokes" instead. Haha. But, margaritas, chips and salsa - pretty good. And the drink specials are worth it too... Overall though, it was just a very annoying experience? I hate when ordering at a restaurant feels like something stressful.... and this did.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

* Good Food * Good Service * Free Comcast High-Speed Wi-Fi * Nice Décor & Atmosphere * Needs a Bartender I've been here twice during winter 2015 & wasn't disappointed. The staff on both occasions were friendly, helpful & accurate. The first time we sat in the main dining room & were enjoying the Mexican decor & peace & quiet when someone turned on the radio & blasted awful current top 40 music. (minus half a star for blasting "All About That Bass" in a dining room) They have an extensive menu of great food. Found coupons right on their website. The second time there we sat a high top table in the bar while watching a Blackhawks game. I found their bar area to be even more enjoyable, with a good atmosphere & good tunes playing on the jukebox. They offer a lot of exotic mixed drinks that, unfortunately nobody knows how to make. Seriously, servers should never act as bartenders. They could really use a real bartender with a sanitation license & proper certification etc. We watched as the "bartender" used the same blender to make several drinks without washing it in between uses. Since they have no concept of measurement, whatever doesn't fit into the glass being served, gets drank by the servers, but at least we know they're not getting a buzz off the drinks either. (minus half a star for not having a professionally staffed bar) I also noticed that they had a patio out back, but being winter, we didn't get a chance to check out their outdoor patio yet.

Ambiance is great & waitstaff are friendly but the food was ok. The location in River Oaks gets 5 stars.

You remember that restroom situation I encountered a while back. I am pleased to announce that this was a one time incident thank goodness. Since then we have been in their several times and each time we really received darn good service. It jst seems like they have been escalating their levels of friendliness. It really makes you feel welcome. The food has not changed a bit

Great place, quick service, good food and drinks. Friendly staff, always coupons or specials going on. Ask for Olivia who is a hard worker and great girl.

The chips and salsa were great, everything else was as we expected it to be. Our server was attentive but never overbearing. Portions were massive. Drinks were good. I have had better fried ice-cream, but oh well. Plenty of parking available.

Bad chips. Bad Buffet. Even the pop didn't taste right. Never again,
